Why Is Everyone Suddenly Talking About Longevity?

Written by Brendan Coates & Inside Fitness

Because we've been doing it all along. We just called it something else.

The Romans had their community pools. The Turks had their bathhouses. The Chinese dynasties had chi gong, meditation, and Tao. Tibetan monks had their breath. The Nordics have their ice baths. The Blue Zones have ikigai — their reason for getting up in the morning.

Different continents. Different centuries. Different gods, even.

So what do they all have in common?

The way we see it at Inside Fitness: they're all rituals for personal mastery.

Now, we know what you're thinking. Personal mastery? That sounds like a strange thing to find in a fitness magazine — one you're used to seeing packed with shredded cover models and Fit 100 issues.

Stick with us.

You've Been Practicing Rituals Your Whole Career

Working out. Strict dieting. Supplement protocols. Posing in front of the mirror at 11 p.m. Weighing your chicken. Prepping your meals on a Sunday so Wednesday can't beat you.

Sound familiar? That's because we've been covering rituals this entire time.

That's exactly what they are — rituals, wrapped up and packaged as fitness. Yes, more extreme than a Turkish bathhouse. But still, at their core, longevity rituals: repeated, disciplined practices designed to make a body do something it wouldn't do on its own.

The difference is most of us never stopped to question what the ritual was actually for.

Why Now?

Because fitness is evolving.

The whole façade of "looking good" doesn't equal "feeling good." Just ask any of our past cover models who've since retired from the sport. They'll all tell you the same things:

  • Hormone fluctuations are real. Nobody warns you in your twenties what your late thirties and forties are going to ask of you.
  • Keeping muscle as you age is hard — harder than building it was the first time.
  • Having abs doesn't mean you have a healthy gut. Some of the leanest athletes we've ever put on this cover were bloated, exhausted, anxious, and inflamed at the exact moment they looked their absolute best.

That gap — between the photo and the feeling — is the story of an entire generation of athletes.

And it's why the conversation has shifted. Today, people don't just want to look better. They want to feel better. They want energy at 4 p.m. They want to sleep. They want their hormones to stop running the show. They want to still be lifting, hiking, chasing their kids, and thinking clearly at 70.

That's not vanity. That's longevity.

This Is Why We're Excited to Cover LWX

LWX is an expo built to explore every one of those rituals — the ancient ones and the modern ones — under one roof.

Science. Biohacking. Biotech. Devices. Educators. All of it pointed at one outcome: helping us feel good, in the name of "longevity" — which, not too long ago, we just called "fitness."

As the industry evolves, Inside Fitness evolves with it. That's the whole point.

We're Staying Ahead of the Curve

Here's what most people don't know: Longevity Summit started four years ago, in a community church hall in Burlington, Ontario.

Founder Brendan Coates — a clinical nutritionist known to his clients as The Gut Whisperer — saw a problem coming, and it was growing fast. As longevity became the trend, it also became over-glamorized. Brands popped up overnight selling false-promise products to people who were simply trying to feel like themselves again.

That's the problem Longevity Summit exists to solve — a place where you can put your hands on the technology, question the practitioner directly, and tell the difference between a ritual that works and a product with good packaging.

Four years later, it's grown into Canada's largest longevity expo, with past stages hosting names like Sachin Patel, Dr. Tom O'Bryan, and Dr. John Demartini.

Who benefits? Families. Fitness athletes, current and retired. Business owners. Health coaches. Anyone who's realized the plan that got them here won't get them where they're going.

What to Expect

LWX 2026 — October 2–4, Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto.

Three days. Over 100 different kinds of rituals — ancient practices, modern protocols, recovery technology, breathwork, education, and the practitioners who actually do this work.

Plus a pre-summit breathwork experience on October 1st, targeting over 1,000 participants.

Why Inside Fitness Believes You Need to Be There

Because you already know how to be disciplined. You've spent years proving it.

The question this next chapter asks is a different one: discipline in service of what?

Come find out what your rituals are actually for.
