We are all aware that there are endless products out there to improve the appearance of hair. One thing many people do not know is that hair growth and health starts with your diet. Here are some nutrient dense and vitamin packed foods to throw into your diet if you are experiencing some hair loss or looking to get some additional growth and improve your overall hair health.

1: EGGS

Eggs are an excellent source of protein and iron. They have a high level of biotin, which has been linked to promoting hair growth and keeping a healthy production of keratin within your hair. Most people do not consume enough biotin in their diets daily so adding eggs into your diet is a great natural way to source it in.

2: SALMON

Salmon is jam packed with amazing fats, a great one for hair because of Omega-3 fatty acids. Increased Omega-3 fats in a diet have been linked to improving hair health as well as speeding up hair growth. Along with being a great fatty fish it also is an excellent source of protein and has lots of B-vitamins and selenium as well in it. Selenium is a mineral that has been found to boost hair growth as well.

3: SWEET POTATOES

Sweet potatoes have been shown to be a great source of beta-carotene, which helps to aid in hair growth and improve hair’s overall texture and shine. The body breaks down beta-carotene and converts it into Vitamin A, which is great for the skin and hair as well. Getting your vitamins from whole, real foods has been shown to have more benefits and results versus supplementing these vitamins and minerals.

4: LEAN MEATS

Getting an adequate amount of protein in your diet is HUGE for women, not just for their muscles but also hormones, hair, skin and nail health. Lean meats such as chicken breast, turkey or fish have high amounts of protein to help fuel your body and the cells that repair and strengthen the actual hair follicles. Undereating and not getting enough protein have been shown to increase hair loss and overall hair health.

5: SPINACH AND LEAFY GREENS

Leafy greens such as spinach and kale are excellent sources of folate and B vitamins. These two vitamins have been shown to improve hair and skin health. Folate has also been proven to decrease hair loss and promote new hair growth. If you increase your intake of leafy greens, you will notice better digestion and improve your skin and body’s production of healthy sebum levels.
