National Pretzel Day - insidefitnessmag.com

Today marks National Pretzel Day. Celebrate this favourite snack by indulging in one of numerous styles (even unsalted if you’re concerned about sodium!)

The popular story about the origin of the pretzel is that a European monk, while making unleavened bread for Lent, began shaping leftover dough in the now familiar criss-cross shape, which resembled the form of one praying with their arms crossed over their chest. These were then baked and given to children as treats or rewards for learning their prayers.

Did you know? 80% of all pretzels made in the USA come from Pennsylvania. The unofficial world capital of pretzels is Reading, Pennsylvania.
